Drought conditions across the Pacific Northwest are showing signs of improvement, a welcome relief after years of record dryness. Vaagen writes, “According to Ecology, in the Yakima Basin, three straight years of drought have caused historically low reservoir storage and streamflow’s.  The summer of 2025 proved to be one of the warmest and driest on record since 1895.”

While this shift offers hope for producers, it also reminds us how vital long-term planning is. Even as rainfall returns, building resilient operations through water management strategies and diversified revenue planning remains essential.
